Before we begin the lesson I will introduce myself to the class.  Many students already know who I am, but the sometimes forget how to say my name.  To help students learn my name I use a few props and pictures.  I show the following:

After students have learned my name, it's time for me to learn their names.  I like to use the chant "Hickety Tickety Bumblebee".

After we learn each others names I will give the students their assigned seat.  I only do assigned spots on the risers.  When we sit on the floor they can sit on any tape they want.

Music Rules

Click here to see the music rules and the hand gestures we use.
We will review the music rules on the first day of music.  Most students will already know the rules, but it's important to review them to make sure everyone knows the rules.  We also have hand gestures that we use for each rule. You can click on the icon of the music rules to see what the rules are and what the hand gestures look like.
We recite the music rules before every music class.  I will pick a student to lead the class in the reciting of the rules.

Before it's time to go we will take about the expectation of lining up.  I use the "Line Up Song" by John Riggio, MusicK8 Volume 20, No. 4.  Students sing the song as they walk to line up.  They must be in line and ready to go by the end of the song.
