Before we begin the lesson I will introduce myself to the class. Many students already know who I am, but the sometimes forget how to say my name. To help students learn my name I use a few props and pictures. I show the following:
After students have learned my name, it's time for me to learn their names. I like to use the chant "Hickety Tickety Bumblebee".
Music Rules.
I will spend time going over the rules on the first day of music. I will introduce each rule with the hand gestures. We'll spend a little time discussing what the rules mean, but the main focus is learning what the hand gestures and words are. In future lessons we will go into more details of what each rule means and what they look like.
We recite the music rules before every music class. I will pick a student to lead the class in the reciting of the rules.

It's time to get up and move. Clap! Stamp! Shake! is from Denise Gagne's Movement Songs Children Love book. Before we do the dance I will go over the expectations.
Before we sing a song I will discuss with the students what an echo is. I will bring out my little friend Dolce ("Dole-chey). Only the teacher sings when Dolce is in her flower. The students sings when she pops out of her flower.
While using Dolce we will sing the song "No More Pie". Before we sing the song I will go over the expectations.
It's time to get up and move again. Mac Chicken Dance is from Greg & Steve Big Fun CD.
Before it's time to go we will take about the expectation of lining up. I use the "Line Up Song" by John Riggio, MusicK8 Volume 20, No. 4. Students sing the song as they walk to line up. They must be in line and ready to go by the end of the song.
