Students will say poem while doing the hand motions without the teacher. I do not say it or do it with them. If they struggle I will show them the motion to try to help them remember what the words are.
First I have the students echo me while using rhythm syllables. Then I will continue to challenge them to decode the rhythm from Ba Ba to Blue Jello (see Sept lesson 4 for details)
In this week's lesson, students will be learning that one sound is a quarter note and two sounds is two eighth notes. Before we begin I had 4-5 students be conductors (see lesson 5 for details).
Now it's time to try to notate the song with quarter note and two eighth notes.
At the end I called on students who want to sing a solo. They would go up to the board and tap the cheeses as they sang the song using rhythm syllables.
It's time for "Show -n- Go". In this week's exit ticket students had to circle quarter note if the word made one sound or two eighth notes if the word make two sounds. We did the first four as a whole class, then I gave them a challenge of doing the last four by themselves. I took a picture of their work before they erased their answers.
