Today I will say the fingerplay two time by myself, then I will challenge the students to say the fingerplay without me. I only do the motions with them.
Today I will say the rhythm using a neutral syllable. Students will echo the same thing back. If I say "Ba BaBa ba ba" students will say "Ba BaBa ba ba". This helps student to hear the rhythm before we put it to rhythm syllables. We are starting to make some progress. They are getting better at saying the same pattern I do.
We warm up our voices by doing sirens with the slide whistle. Then we sing the echo song "No More Pie".
My kinders are starting to get the hang of moving to the board while I sing a song. Soon they will have to sing the song as they move to their at the board spots.
I quickly review how a beat is like our heart beat. Today I pick students to give me a body part to tap our hammers on. I am still the only one singing. After I do the song once, then I have the students try to sing the song without me. They almost have it, but they still need some more practice.
In this week's lessons students will say the poem and do the motions without the teacher. I don't say it with them and I don't do the motions with them.
The Mac Chicken Dance comes from Greg & Steves CD "Big!". I like this dance because it uses a lot of simple songs that all children should know (Itsy Bitsy Spider and Head and Shoulders Knees and Toes). It's also done to a very upbeat tempo. They even get to learn the "Chicken Dance". At the end they do the chicken dance starting slow and by the end it is so fast you can hardly keep up with it.
